So he did not “immigrate” here, he simply moved here as a farm laborer in the late 20’s. His brother’s fought in WWII as he grew food for the troops. In the 70’s someone called him a “Jap” which pissed him off as he fought as an American and was filipino. Meanwhile at that same time he worked for a Japanese-American farm owner whose family was interred during the war. But the locals continued to maintain the farm until they returned from the internment camp. We are all Americans.

Maybe it's because of living all my seventy four years here on the west coast, but in school and at home and the community we lived in we learned about the rich history of Asian Americans. As well as how thousands of years ago Alaska was connected via the Beringia land bridge to eastern Russia that was/is highly Asian. Thus Asians have a longer history of being connected (pun intended) to the USA than Europeans. What saddens me is how many Americans think Chinese when they hear the word Asian, when it included various Asian countries, whose histories have enriched all of humanity. Also saddens me how slow film, tv have been in hiring Asian actors. Or print/news media where one rarely sees an Asian name connected to reporting news.
